YaK bAK! — Support

Hold SAY. Say something stupid. Hit PLAY.
If it isn't doing that, here's what's usually wrong.

Common questions

Nothing records when I hold SAY

The app needs the microphone. Open Settings → YaK bAK! and switch Microphone on. If you tapped "Don't Allow" the first time, that's the only place to change it.

It cut me off mid-sentence

That's the toy. Every unit has a short, hard recording limit and it stops dead when it gets there — the real ones did exactly this. The limit isn't the same on every unit, so try a different one if you need a little longer.

Where do my recordings go?

Nowhere. There's one recording at a time and the next one replaces it, the same way a tape gets recorded over. Nothing is saved between sessions and there's no export — that's how the toy worked, and it's how this works.

I can't hear the playback

Check the silent switch and the volume. If your phone is connected to headphones or a speaker, playback follows wherever the audio is going.

It sounds terrible

Correct. That's the entire point — the hiss, the pumping and the tiny speaker are modelled deliberately. If it sounded clean, something would be wrong.

Something looks broken, or a unit is missing

Try deleting the app and installing it again. If that doesn't fix it, email me below and say which unit and which iPhone — it helps a lot.

Still stuck?

Email me. A real person reads it.
